Resin Driveways
Resin Bound is a permeable material consisting of quartz aggregates, various different stones and in some mixtures marble. This is paired with a resin epoxy glue and mixed thoroughly. This is then laid 18 mm thick and compressed with a trowel, each mix covers roughly 3.5 square meters. There are various different colours ranging from monochromatic greys to earthy reds, there is sure to be a colour to perfectly compliment your property.

The Dig Out
Here at Plymouth Block Paving we don't just focus on what the end product looks like, we focus as much if not more attention on what goes underneath starting with the dig out we like to take out between 220 and 500mm depending on ground conditions made up of sub base and open course base Tarmac this is necessary to comply with suds the standards that need to be met regarding water and drainage on driveways.
Sub Grade, Sub Base and Open course Tarmac
Sub Grade : On the deeper dig outs we will top up with sub grade until 300mm is remaining and compact until solid we refer to sub grade as 40-dust (rocks ranging in size from 40mm down to dust) when this is compacted this achieves something we like to call mechanical interlock and this is what makes the base of the driveway hard and almost impossible to compress further within reason.
Sub base : After the sub grade we put down clean chippings acting as our sub base. this course will be around 200mm thick after compaction, the reason for clean chippings is the drainage quality this material posses. the water will drain through the chippings into the sub grade below and disperse naturally into the ground. This is making your whole driveway effectively a giant soak-away and these chippings are the foundations.
Open Course Tarmac : After the Sub Base comes the Open course Tarmac, it is vital that this is open course other wise the water will not drain through and therefore will not comply with the suds regulations. This will be between 50 mm and 80mm thick after compaction. This is the course that the resin will sit on top of and therefore has to be flat with no low or high points and if not you will see this on the top course of resin
Resin Bound : This is the final layer and comes on top of the open course tarmac. The resin Bound surface is permeable and is recommended to be laid at 18mm thick on driveways and 15mm thick on patios and paths. This will be the top course of the soak-away and is very effective at dispersing water quickly due to the lack of fines in the aggregate stopping the water from getting through. a typical Resin Bound mix consists of 4x 25kg bags of different sized and coloured aggregates unique in every mix, a 7.5kg epoxy resin to be mixed on site, a 6.25 kg bag of binding quartz and a light scatter of glass fines after it has been laid for added grip and slip resistance. The resin bound mix is roughly 113.75kg and coverage rate is roughly 3.5 square meters.
